Dimitris Vastarouchas
Twelve years of continuous efforts to catch the moment, the right expression & light, and to entrap icons in memory and heart, targeted my life and engraved the life path. I am 48 years old and continue to escape from daily routines when I look through the lens, listen the magic click and write down to the paper my feelings. I love photography either in studio or outdoors, and I will never stop being involved with.

I was born in Kavala, northern Greece, in 1968. Many years past full of good and bad moments, but photography entered in my life in 2000 while I was attending new building vessels project in Korea. It was a sensitive touch that showed me the way to find the expression that is missing nowadays. Why people have lost the smile and authenticity? I do not know and the only thing that is coming in my mind is to keep exploring, only this.
During the last decade, I traveled a lot, not only due to the demanding job I have, but the continuing efforts to satisfy the thirst to catch the moment through the photographer's eye and child's heart. The result was more than 5000 slides and plenty of digital captures that were stored in my files. Memories that I am looking at and remember....
What will be the next movement? We live in the worst crisis that I have seen for the past 40 years. It is not an easy task to preserve a photographic studio while you are not a professional, to travel abroad very often to know places when you do not have time and life is expensive, however, is always easy to look through the lens looking for your Ithaki as Kavafis wrote many years ago. I will continue taking photos, even wandering through our city streets.
Last but not least, I do not believe that the imprisonment of life icons is enough. Book writing, poetry, painting & other arts are the way to communicate our deeper feelings. Photography either through the camera or mind, walks side by side with book writing, offering to me invaluable experiences.
